Board certified behavior analyst
Shelby Bournival, MS, BCBA
Shelby is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with a background in clinical psychology and applied behavior analysis. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida and her Master of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of South Florida, graduating in May 2026. Shelby passed the BCBA board examination shortly after graduation and is passionate about using applied behavior analysis to help individuals build meaningful skills, increase independence, and reach their full potential.
With more than eight years of experience working with children, Shelby has supported a wide range of ages and needs—from infants as young as two weeks old through adolescence. Her professional experience includes working as a preschool teacher, serving as a behavioral health technician in an addiction treatment facility, and providing early intervention ABA services to children ages 2 to 6. She has worked with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down syndrome, anxiety, OCD, addiction, PTSD, and schizophrenia.
Shelby finds the most rewarding part of her work in those pivotal “light-bulb” moments when a skill finally clicks. Whether it is hearing a child say “mom” or “dad” for the first time, watching a client master toileting, or seeing someone gain a new level of independence, she celebrates every step of progress. Some of her most meaningful moments are when clients develop the skills and confidence they need to successfully transition out of services.
She approaches her work with a holistic mindset, emphasizing compassion, understanding, and consideration of each individual’s unique experiences and needs. Shelby is especially passionate about teaching skills that promote independence, believing that every individual deserves the opportunity to have as much independence and control over their own life as possible. As a BCBA, she strives to create collaborative relationships with families and caregivers and to make meaningful, practical changes that carry over into everyday life.
Outside of her professional role, Shelby enjoys spending time at the beach reading crime-thriller novels or listening to Taylor Swift. She loves visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal while still making time to enjoy other attractions. At home, she stays busy with her dog, Elvis, who keeps life entertaining. Shelby has traveled to France and hopes to relocate there within the next 10 years. Taylor Swift, Starbucks, or great food are the way to her heart!
