Registered Behavior Technician/student analyst
Shelby Bournigal, MS
Shelby is a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and Student Analyst with a background in clinical psychology and applied behavior analysis. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida and completed her Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis in May 2026. Shelby aspires to become dual certified as both a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) and LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor), with the goal of supporting individuals through both behavioral and mental health approaches.
With more than eight years of experience working with children, Shelby has supported a wide age range—from as young as two weeks old through adolescence. Her professional experience includes working as a preschool teacher, serving as a behavioral health technician in an addiction treatment facility, and providing early intervention ABA services to children ages 2 to 6. She has worked with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down syndrome, anxiety, OCD, addiction, PTSD, and schizophrenia.
Shelby finds the most rewarding part of her work in those pivotal “light-bulb” moments when a skill finally clicks. From hearing a child say “mom” or “dad” for the first time to seeing a client gain independence with toileting, she values every step of progress. Her most meaningful moments come when clients reach a level of independence that allows them to successfully transition out of services.
She approaches her work with a holistic mindset, emphasizing compassion, understanding, and consideration of each individual’s broader life experiences. Shelby is especially passionate about teaching skills that promote independence, as she believes this is something every individual strives for and deserves.
Outside of her professional role, Shelby enjoys spending time at the beach reading crime-thriller novels or listening to Taylor Swift. She loves visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal while still making time to enjoy other attractions. At home, she stays busy with her dog, Elvis, who keeps life entertaining. Shelby has traveled to France and hopes to relocate there within the next 10 years. Taylor Swift, Starbucks, or great food are the way to her heart.
